I have had some criticism that I haven't given enough notice on the things I list, so this week, I am going to tell you about some events this week and a few for next week, so peeps can plan ahead. Let's get cracking....
Movies: This week is all about Finish Line Films at Remington Park. They are showing movies at 8:30 on Thursday and Saturday nights in the Plaza area. The movies are free and range in genre and ear. You are welcome to bring your lawnchairs and blankets and just hang out at the movie. The movies will continue until mid-August when the horseracing begins again. Their restaurant and their casino are still open and in combination with the movie could make for a cool date night.
Witches: One of my favorite movies is the Wizard of Oz and they are performing it at the Mitch Park Ampitheatre in Edmond. It is located at 1501 W. Corell. The last show will be June 23. Tickets range from $6-12 and can be ordered from http://www.upstagetheatreok.com/.
Mudd: 2011 Mudd volleyball tourney to benefit the MDA is this Saturday and Sunday, June 23 & 24 in Mustang, OK. 12 people teams with 8 people on the court at a time and 1 refree. Your last chance to sign up is July 21st ( Thursday). Entry fee is $275 but with 12 to a team. It's really not that bad. This is serious adult fun. No children allowed. Takes place at the Silver Stallion Club at 1433 E. State Hwy 152. Kevin, can you imagine, you get 12 of your teammates together and form a team. You would dominate and raise money for a good cause. Spectators are required to donate $5 to the cause. You could rake in the money for MDA, plus it would be funny to see the other team's faces when you walk up. Priceless!!
Now for next week...A great girl band the Janedear Girls will be performing at the Diamond Ballroom on July 29th with special guest Aaron Vaughn and Samantha Rose. The Diamond is located at 8001 S. Eastern Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 in advance/ $10 dos.
Bricktown Challenge Scavenger Hunt starts on Monday of next week. You can sign up at www.Wimgo.com/bricktown. You will receive a clue via text and will text your answers back. August 1 the winners will be announced and you can win some really great prizes, including an xBox 360, tickets to see Taylor Swift, and a VIP night out in Bricktown. I'm already signed up and am sooooo pumped.
Hope to see you out there!
Things Kevin Durant (&you) can do in OKC for fun...
This is a blog about things that can be done in OKC for fun. I get so tired of hearing people say that there is nothing to do and OKC is soooo boring. Well, I'm out to prove them wrong. Things in this blog will be from all areas of interest. Some may cost money, some may be free. Everything will not be for everyone, but it will be fun for someone. And might even encourage someone to step out their comfort zone and try something new.

Fish out of (and in) the water
This week is all about water and the things that come out of it. With this scorching weather that we have been having, it's hard to recommend doing anything outside, but if you have to be outside, why not be near water?! I recommend White Water Bay located at 3908 W. Reno Ave. Right now, they are open 7 sweltering days a week. Sunday - Thursday they are open from 10:30am until 7pm. Friday and Saturday they are open from 10:30am to 8pm. They are technically open later on certain Fridays for their Dive-In Movies. These movies are family friendly and start at dusk. This week's movie in Twilight's Eclipse with the rest of the summer showing The Karate Kid, Gnomeo & Juliet, and my fave Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The Dive-In movie is a unique experience and something that you should do at least once. The movie is including in the day's admission price to the park. Now White Water can be a bit pricey and to get your money's worth, you really need to make a day and/or night of it. You can get coupons at 7-11 or use a Sprite can to everyone in for a children's price admission. OR you can order your tickets online and receive special pricing. Children 3 and under are free. To cut costs, you can pack a cooler of food and check it. It's really a fun day and if you really love it, next year buy a season pass. FYI: it always costs $6 to park.
If you aren't swimsuit ready or chlorine and sunshine are your thing, then you can still do something water related and check out a fantastic meal at Sushi Neko. Gross, raw sushi?! you say. Don't knock it to you try it and you should try it at least once in your life. Sushi Neko is located at 4318 N. Western. They are open Monday thru Saturday and closed on Sunday. They are open late and often the weekends require a reservation. They have a large variety to choose from and you can even find food for the non fish person. But for you adventurers out there, here are some of my favorites: edamame and/or tempura veggies and shrimp appetizers, the california rolls for beginners, the terry rool for intermediate, and the tootsie roll for you spice lovers. Now for the raw (drumroll please): smoked salmon (doesn't have a raw texture because of the smoke), the yellowtail (a little fishy and grainy, but good), and my absolute favorite, the halibut, lightly seared. The prices are reasonable, but can add up quickly. But great for a date night.
Now I know the economy is what it is and doesn't look like it's gonna get better anytime soon, so if you don't have the money for either of the above, there's no shame in fishsticks and a kiddy pool in the backyard. Great company and great conversation can happen anywhere and life is what you make it. Enjoy!

Music, Mayhem, & Golf
Hello again! Still think that we are boring?! Good news, this is a week full of music. There are no major headlines this week, but I think some of the best music is in the smaller venues. For the rap/Hip-Hop lovers Mystikal will be at America's Pub on Friday, July 8th at 8pm. America's Pub is located in Bricktown at 115 E. Sheridian. I'm not a big hip-hop/rap fan but I'm sure it'll still be one heck of a party. If it sounds like your kind of bag, check it out.
For those with a more folksy, bluesy taste in music have to check out Shelly Phelps at the Red Cup on Friday July 8th at 7pm. The Red Cup is a groovy little coffehouse located at 3122 N. Classen. A buddy of mine works there and if the Aussie's baking, you should be buying. He is phenomenal! (Just don't tell him I said so or he'll get a big head.)
If you would rather have a little mayhem with your music, check out The Planets Align with Mandala and Killer Ghandi, 9pm Friday at VZD's. VZD's is 4200 N. Western. Admission is $5. I'm not sure how to describe this band, just go with an open mind and expect to have a good time.
As for me, I'm all about golf this week. Brookside Golf Course located at 9016 S. Shields Blvd. has a afternoon special running. Monday-Friday after noon. 2 people, 18 rounds, 1 cart for 16.29 each. For someone who hasn't picked up her clubs in 3 years and will probably lose more than 16.29 in golf balls that is a heck of a deal. They do not accept tee times, walk-ons only. They do have a dress code, but it is slightly more lax than most golf courses. It's a decent course, a little cramped at times, but it has one heck of water hazard late in the course. For me, it has sentimental value, my grandpa used to play there 4-6 times a week. Kevin, I know that you could play any course in the country, including your own backyard, but for those of us who don't want to spend a year's salary (ours, not yours) on course dues, it's a good alternative. I am going to get my golf on later this week, so I hope that you go out and do something fun too.
Next week.... it'll be a surprise.

Things Kevin Durant (&you) can do in OKC for fun!
First and foremost, let me say I am a Thunder fan and a Kevin Durant fan. He seems to have his stuff together and has been an advocate of OKC since he has been here. I completely understand his response of "Nothing" to the question "What do you in OKC for fun?". I wouldn't want to constantly chitchat with TMZ either. I don't really understand why people turned on KD and tweeted and FBd mean things about him. However, what really puts a burr in my saddle is the people that lashed out against OKC, especially the people from here. It's one thing to support KD and let him know that you understand his response. It's another thing entirely to tear apart OKC. We live in a wonderful, beautiful city that is growing more and more every day and tries to offer a fun time for all. I can't believe that so many of my fellow Oklahomans bash us and label us as podunk and boring. So here I am to prove them wrong. Each week, I will list different things that you can do in OKC for fun. Everything that I post will not be for everyone, and I will try to post things from every possible interest. I'm not going to promise that they will not be geared toward my interests. However, I promise to try and step out of my comfort zone if you are willing to step out of yours.
This weekend is the 4th of July weekend and there will be tons of stuff to do in the city. The big bash downtown, county celebrations, city wide fireworks, but my suggestion for this weekend is as American as apple pie. What? you say. I'm talking baseball. Oklahoma City Redhawks baseball to be exact. We have 7 straight days of hometown baseball starting on the 4th. We have a 3-game series against the Iowa Cubs, followed by a 4-game series agaist Omaha. Most games start at 7:05pm. Tickets can range in price from $5-$20. If you've never been, it is a fun time. Expect to spend a little bit of money on food and drinks, but it's a good team, a good stadium, good fans, and overall good time. And if like me you have a kiddo who eats, breathes, and lives baseball, it helps to make memories that will last a lifetime for him. Monday night will have fireworks following the game and if you are looking for a bargain Tuesday is Kraft Singles night. You bring a Kraft Singles package wrapper to the box office and buy one ticket, get one free. Check Redhawk website for more details.
If you are not a sports person, summer madness at the Winchester Drive-In is always a fun experience. This weekend, you have Mr. Popper's Penguins, Green Latern, and Super 8 playing (in that order). Movie starts at 9:10pm. Admission is cash only: adults are $6, kids 3-10 are $3, and kidls 2 and under are FREE. Great thing about the drive-in is you can get way more comfy in your car than you can in most theaters. Plus you can bring your own food, snacks, and beverages (adult or otherwise). My family went to the drive-in all summer long when I was growing up and I look forward to taking my kiddos and sharing that experience with them. Oh, and Kevin Durant, I get that you probably have a home theater in your house or could request that a theater be reserved just for you to watch a movie, BUT you can be incognito in your giant Hummer AND get to experience some good old-fashioned small town movie watching. I suggest you bring your own popcorn and pickles so you don't have to get out of your car. : )
